Leids Open 2025
For the second time in Sportcomplex 1574, we were able to organize our Leids Open tournament. The date of the tournament was Saturday March 1st 2025. With the lessons learned from last year we were stoked to have another go for an even better tournament than last year and we think we succeded in that. Despite the last minute withdrawals on Friday night, we were able to play around 190 matches on Saturday, so we still have a full players field and a full day of badminton action. Luckily lesser matches meant an earlier end of the tournament and the final match concluded around 23:30, to the delight of the players who also played last year's tournament finals.
28 Veglo players were on court for their home tournament, but only one was able to go home with the win: Annika de Jong, together with former Veglo player Myrthe Wildenbeest won the Women Double in the C-category. Youth player Ryan Roeterdink ended 2nd in their Mens Double Pould in the D-category. Besides them, a number of Veglo players ended their tournament in the semi-final:
· Ciara Dwyer & Robert Du Puy (Mixed Doubles B)
· Jennifer Beuman-Welten & Fabienne Keijzers (Women Doubles C)
· Mark van Kooten (Men Single C)
· Robert Du Puy & Mark van Kooten (Men Double C)
Other Leids success was present with our neighbors of BC Leiden, they did their best for the win and 2 prizes has been taken home: Luke Carroll & Pierre Henriot won the Men Double C and Hilde van Keulen & Pepijn van Empelen won the Mixed Double D.
We can look back on a great second edition in our new hall and hopefully we can improve even more next year. A big thank you goes to the staff of the hall for the preparation, technique and facilities during the tournament, Daniel van der Hengst and Allrackets.com for the stringing service, tournament prizes and the shop in the hall, Ilja Cederhout and Ward van Mil on behalf of SMC Rijnland Fysiotherapeuten for the Physio services during the tournament. And last but not least, everyone present in the hall; players and spectators, thank you for playing and coming for supporting.
